Today marked my very last day of being on my church’s Vacation Bible School Hand Motions Team. For five years, I have stood on stage in front of hundreds of people. As a person with a physical disability, it was the most nerve wracking times of my life. There were countless motions I could not do. Many children could not understand how to learn the right motions from me. I have been called “the girl with the hand.” Insecurity pervaded through my brain. But most of all, it was the most fulfilling times of my life. I had fun putting together my outfits. I got high fives, hugs, and “lightsaber” fights. I got called “a Gift from God.” I was told that I was a sign that people with physical limitations can dance and perform. Joy pervaded through my soul. A note to everyone: if you think you can’t, you can. :)
